Practice
Steve has extensive experience in a wide range of civil litigation. He came to the Bar as a respected solicitor, having trained and worked at Simpson & Marwick in Edinburgh. His principal fields of practice include:-
- Reparation (particularly Personal Injury actions)
- Professional and Medical Negligence
- Insurance Litigation
- Commercial and Contract Litigation
Steve acts on behalf of both Pursuers and Defenders, appearing in the Court of Session (Inner House appeals and Outer House cases) and the Sheriff Court. Within his Personal Injury practice, Steve is instructed in a broad range of cases, including employers' liability, occupiers' liability, road traffic accidents, occupational stress, industrial diseases and fatal accident cases. He is experienced in the quantification and settlement of catastrophic claims.

- Catherine Green & Anor v Chief Constable, Lothian & Borders Police & Anor 2004 SCLR 301 - for Defender - successfully opposed motion for jury trial on grounds of complexity caused by overlap between claims of PTSD and loss of society.
- Mrs Carol Dall or Cochrane v John Gaughan 2004 SCLR 1073 - for Defenders - Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 - Defenders assoilzied after proof
- Angela Jones v MK Leslie Ltd [2004] Rep LR 136 - for Defenders - status of Statement of Valuation of Claim - successfully opposed motion for jury trial
- William Anderson v Christian Salvesen [2006] CSOH 101 - for Pursuer - nervous shock and categories of victim - successfully resisted Defenders' motion for a debate
- Amy Whitehead's Legal Representative v Graeme John Douglas [2006] CSOH 178 - for Pursuer - successfully opposed attempt by Defenders to recover precognitions referred to by expert witness
- Marc MacDonald v Christopher Mallan [2008] CSOH 01 - for Defenders - successfully opposed motion for jury trial on grounds of complexity arising out of application of Ogden Tables
